We Made it Through Busy Memorial Day

We got back from our trip to see Genna graduate Sunday afternoon.  We had a shift that evening.  It was the middle of the Memorial Day weekend and it was busy!  We add up the visitors at the end of the day and we had over 600 people come through.  Not a record by any means, but it kept us busy.  I must admit, I did make everyone who worked that day look at a picture of Genna in her graduation robes!

Which reminds me, I got a few more pictures from Genna’s graduation last week that I’d like to add.

Right after commencement
Craig Jr, Genna and Heather celebrating.

Remember these?  We lived by a giant doughnut when I was a kid. Couldn't resist taking a picture.
Monday we worked the morning shift and it was busy as well.  Lots of large tours.  A family came but skipped the next tour since they were waiting for some friends.  When the following tour started, the wife went in and the husband stayed out waiting.  Once the friends got there, we would have them join the tour already in progress.  When the friends arrived a few minutes later, we were so happy to see it was Cindy and Richard Smith!  Cindy lived with us for a year when Craig was bishop over 25 years ago!  When Cindy and Richard got married, Heather was a junior bridesmaid and Genna was a flower girl.  Such fun memories.  We visited for a bit and made them even later to their tour, but they had seen it a few months ago so I didn’t feel so bad.

Later that day, some friends from Roseville came by!  Great to see the Barretts.  What a fun, busy day.

After the holiday, it was pretty slow.  Arizona kids are out of school.  We had lots and lots of visitors from AZ. Families and youth groups.  It will get busier at the Battalion when CA and other states finish school.

The bigwigs from Salt Lake did make a few tweaks and suggestions after their tour last week, but no big changes.

This week for P day we took it easy and went to La Jolla.  We looked at lots of sea lions and pelicans.  Groups of people were swimming pretty far out.  They did not wear wetsuits and the water was 65 degrees.  Craig walked down to the water.  I sat on a bench looking at the ocean and enjoying the beauty.

We ate lunch out on the patio of a restaurant and it was delightful.

Today was the Rock & Roll marathon that traveled our route to the Battalion and all over Old Town.  It started at 5:30 a.m.  We had to find a different way to Old Town and park in a public parking lot across the street.  By the time we got to work, there were still some stragglers running in front of our building.  We did see lots and lots of runners running along Mission Bay.  Nice!  While I had the camera out for the runners, I snapped a picture of Elder Robinson sweeping off the front steps and walk.

This week we’d like you to meet wonderful Sister Nicholls from Huntsville, UT.  She is a soccer star and plays for Westminster College in Salt Lake.  She plays the clarinet and the sax.  She’d like to be an orthopedic surgeon.  Her mission is Spanish speaking and she works hard at learning the language.  She is even tempered and very willing and uncomplaining in absolutely everything she does.
